The Lowest (and Liveliest) Place on Earth

Kicking is Overrated: Anyone can swim in the Dead Sea!

SUBMITTED BY: Salena Stinchcombe   LOCATION: Dead Sea, Jordan (2007)

No one has ever died from a shark attack in the Dead Sea, making it the ideal place to bodysurf and yuk it up in the mud… The water is 35-percent salt, making it impossible to sink, but still very possible to drown.

You don’t want to swallow this stuff — 20 times more heinous than the chlorine pool, but also 20 times more fun!

Mud bath anyone? The silt at the bottom of the Dead Sea is supposed to have healing and beautifying properties.

“Lord of the Rings” Cliffhanger

Pretending to fall off the "Lord of the Rings" cliff in Queenstown, New Zealand

SUBMITTED BY: Amanda Williams    LOCATION: New Zealand (2008)

Fantasizing about cliffhanger life-or-death moments is not just confined to the Grand Canyon.

“Lord of the Rings” fan Amanda Williams tracked down the very same cliff from the second movie, “The Two Towers,” where Aragorn seemingly plunged to his untimely death.

“It’s a dangerous business, going out your door. You step onto the road, and, if you don’t keep your feet, there’s no telling where you might get swept off to.”  – J.R.R. Tolkien

SPOILER ALERT (even though the movie came out in 2002) — Aragorn did NOT die after falling off the cliff. He survived because the drop from this ledge is actually only about five feet.
